TWO DEAD FRIENDS

A phone call between two dead friends, Chloe and Jessica. Chloe is enjoying her afterlife in Heaven, Jesica is living it up in Hell. Chloe is enjoying a peaceful, if dull morning when she gets a call from Jessica begging her to ‘live’ a little and come party with her in hell.

This piece plays with the dichotomy that exists between introverted and extroverted, juxtaposed to the relationship between Heaven and Hell. Heaven to one, may not be viewed as such by another.

Chloe is sitting in her cozy suite in heaven reading a book and sipping tea while celestial music plays gently in the background.

Her phone rings. She puts down her mug to answer it.

Chloe:

“Hello?”

The sounds of loud music and revelry blare from the phone’s speakers.

Jessica:

“Chloe! What’s up girly pop? You’re reading alone on a Friday night… again?! UGH, don’t be lame come down here and party with us. Pleaseeeee?”

Chloe:

“Go to Hell Jessica.”

Jessica:

“I’m already here, and you should be too. Seriously, Chloe, the gangs all here. Get off your angelic ass and enjoy your afterlife for once!”

Chloe:

“Well maybe… It’s safe right?”

Jessica:

“YASSSSSSS, of course it is! We’re gonna have so much fu-”

There’s a loud commotion. The sound of things breaking and ripping. Horrible growling barks sound as if they’re getting closer and closer.

Jessica lets out a piercing scream… And then she is devoured.

The line goes dead.

Chloe:

“Jessica? Hello? Chloe sighs. Figures.”

Chloe hangs up. The celestial music, page turning and tea sipping resume.

Everything fades to quiet.

The end.
